Online Jewellery Appraisal Terms & Conditions
These terms apply specifically to online jewellery appraisal and valuation services purchased from DJG Jewellery. By purchasing an appraisal, submitting information or photographs, and requesting that we begin work, you agree to the terms below.
1. Nature of the Service
Our online appraisal service provides a professional opinion based on the photographs, measurements, descriptions, hallmarks, provenance and other information supplied by the customer.
The appraisal is carried out remotely. We do not physically inspect, handle, weigh, test or perform laboratory analysis on the jewellery unless a separate in-person service has been expressly agreed.
2. Accuracy of Information Supplied
Customers are responsible for ensuring that photographs and information submitted are accurate, clear and relate to the item being appraised.
The quality and reliability of an online appraisal are directly affected by the quality of the information supplied. DJG Jewellery cannot be held responsible for inaccuracies caused by incomplete, misleading, incorrect or poor-quality information or photographs.
3. Gemstones and Precious Metals
Identification of gemstones, gemstone treatments, synthetic origin, geographical origin, metal fineness and other characteristics may require physical or laboratory testing.
Any identification made from photographs alone should therefore be understood as an informed opinion based on the available evidence and not as laboratory confirmation.
If an item contains a particularly fine, rare, large or potentially high-value gemstone, we may advise that an online appraisal is unsuitable. Treatments, synthetic origin, geographic origin and subtle quality characteristics can have a substantial effect on value and may not be reliably determined from photographs.
Where appropriate, we may recommend examination by a recognised gemmological laboratory before a definitive gemstone valuation is attempted.
4. Valuation Figures
Any valuation figure supplied represents our professional estimate based on the information available and relevant market evidence at the time the appraisal is prepared.
Jewellery values can change over time and may vary depending on location, selling method, market conditions, dealer margins, auction results and the purpose for which a valuation is required.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, our standard online appraisal should not be treated as a formal insurance replacement valuation, probate valuation, legal valuation, authentication certificate or laboratory report.
5. No Guarantee of Sale Price
An estimated market value does not guarantee that an item will sell for that amount. Actual sale prices may be higher or lower depending on the marketplace, buyer demand, condition, timing, commission, fees and other factors outside our control.
6. Appraisal Timescale
Standard online appraisals are normally issued within 48 hours after we have received all photographs, measurements and other information reasonably required to complete the appraisal.
The 48-hour period does not begin until sufficient information has been supplied. If we need additional photographs or details, the appraisal may be delayed until they are received.
7. PDF Appraisal
The completed appraisal will normally be supplied electronically in PDF format to the email address provided by the customer.
The report is prepared for the customer who purchased the appraisal and relates only to the item or items submitted for assessment.
8. Cancellation and Starting Work Immediately
Because our appraisal service is normally completed within 48 hours, customers are asked at the time of purchase to expressly request that DJG Jewellery begins providing the service immediately rather than waiting until the end of any applicable statutory cancellation period.
Where applicable consumer law provides a cancellation period, a customer who requests that work begins during that period may still have cancellation rights while the service is being performed. If the service has been fully completed after the customer expressly requested early performance and acknowledged that the cancellation right would be lost upon full completion, that statutory cancellation right may no longer apply.
Nothing in these terms is intended to remove or restrict any statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
9. Refunds Where We Cannot Provide a Responsible Appraisal
If, after reviewing the submitted material, we determine that the item cannot reasonably or responsibly be appraised remotely, we may decline to proceed and refund the appraisal fee.
Examples may include items requiring physical authentication, potentially important gemstones requiring laboratory testing, unclear photographs or specialist objects outside the scope of our expertise.
10. Limitations of Liability
Our appraisal represents a professional opinion based on the evidence supplied to us at the time. It should not be regarded as a guarantee of authenticity, gemstone treatment, origin, future value or eventual selling price unless specifically stated and supported by appropriate testing.
Customers should obtain specialist laboratory testing or an in-person examination before making significant financial, legal, insurance or investment decisions where the identity or value of an item depends on characteristics that cannot reasonably be established remotely.
11. Photographs and Submitted Information
Photographs and information supplied by customers will be used for the purpose of carrying out the appraisal, administering the order and communicating with the customer.
Customers should only upload photographs and information that they are entitled to provide.
12. Acceptance of These Terms
By ticking the acceptance box before proceeding to checkout, the customer confirms that they have read and agreed to these Online Jewellery Appraisal Terms & Conditions and expressly requests that DJG Jewellery begin providing the appraisal service immediately after purchase.
