Create Custom Jewelry Around the Color and Cut of Topaz
Topaz offers an unusually broad choice of colors and can often be found in impressive sizes with excellent transparency. From cool blue stones to warm golden, peach and pink tones, a bespoke setting allows the individual gemstone to determine the proportions and character of the finished piece.
Choosing a Topaz for Custom Jewelry
Color, cut and visible dimensions should be considered together when choosing topaz for a custom piece.
Two stones of similar carat weight can have very different face-up sizes depending on their depth and proportions. This becomes particularly important with larger topaz, where a well-cut stone can create considerable presence without requiring an elaborate setting.
Transparency and liveliness also matter. A large gemstone is not automatically the better choice if the cut leaves it looking flat or excessively deep.
Topaz can offer substantial size, strong color and clean transparency. That gives us the freedom to let the gemstone carry the design rather than relying on a large amount of surrounding decoration.

Blue Topaz
Available in pale through intensely saturated blue tones and particularly effective with white gold, platinum and diamond accents.
Golden Topaz

Softer pink, peach and reddish tones can create highly individual rings and pendants, particularly with restrained diamond detailing.
Imperial Topaz
A valuable trade category generally associated with fine warm-colored topaz in yellow-orange, orange, peach or pinkish tones.
What Is Imperial Topaz?
Imperial topaz is a trade term used for particularly desirable warm-colored topaz, often associated with material from the Ouro Preto region of Brazil.
The precise color range accepted under the term can vary within the trade, so “imperial” should not be treated as a simple guarantee of quality or origin.
Color, transparency, cut and supporting documentation remain important when evaluating a significant stone.
Blue Topaz and Treatment
Much of the blue topaz seen in the jewelry market began as pale or colorless material and achieved its blue color through irradiation followed by heat treatment.
This treatment is well established within the trade, but it should not be confused with naturally blue material simply because the finished stones may look similar.
Different commercial shades are often sold under names such as Sky Blue, Swiss Blue and London Blue, although these are trade descriptions rather than formal gemological grades.
Topaz Cuts and Shapes
Topaz can be cut into a very wide variety of shapes, making it especially flexible for custom jewelry.
Emerald and rectangular cuts can produce clean architectural lines, while ovals and cushions work naturally in antique-inspired rings and clusters. Pear and marquise shapes lend themselves to pendants and articulated earrings.
Larger topaz crystals also make unusual elongated and custom cuts possible, allowing the stone itself to become the starting point for a distinctive design.
Topaz and Diamond Jewelry
Diamonds provide a neutral frame around topaz and can either sharpen or soften the overall design depending on the shapes used.
Round diamonds add brightness, pear-shaped side stones create elegant trilogies, and baguettes can reinforce the geometry of an emerald-cut topaz.
With a large or deeply colored center, only a restrained amount of diamond may be needed to give the piece definition.

Custom Topaz Rings, Earrings and Pendants
Topaz can work beautifully across many types of jewelry.
Rings may use a large solitaire, diamond trilogy, cluster or geometric setting. Earrings can be created from matched stones as studs or drops, while pendants allow particularly large or unusually shaped topaz to become the focal point of the piece.
The design should take account of how the jewelry will actually be worn, particularly in rings where the gemstone faces more frequent impact.
Antique and Art Deco Inspired Topaz Jewelry
Topaz lends itself to several period-inspired directions.

Topaz Durability and Cleavage
Topaz has a Mohs hardness of 8, giving it good resistance to scratching, but hardness is only one part of gemstone durability.
Topaz has perfect basal cleavage, which means a sufficiently hard impact in an unfavorable direction can split or chip the stone.
This is particularly relevant in rings. Protective setting design, sensible setting height and care around hard knocks are therefore more important than the hardness number alone might suggest.
Mystic Topaz and Coated Stones
“Mystic topaz” is generally natural topaz that has been given a thin surface coating to create an iridescent multicolored appearance.
The coating is part of the visual effect and can be more vulnerable to abrasion than the underlying topaz itself.
If a coated stone is used in custom jewelry, its treatment should be disclosed and the setting designed with appropriate care in mind.
Using Your Own Topaz or Heirloom Stones
A topaz you already own can potentially become the starting point for an entirely new piece.
An older ring stone might become a pendant, while existing diamonds could be reused around the topaz in a new trilogy, cluster or period-inspired setting.
The gemstone should be assessed before resetting, particularly for chips or damage near its cleavage direction and exposed edges.
How Much Does Custom Topaz Jewelry Cost?
Topaz covers a broad price range. The value of the gemstone can depend on color, size, cut, transparency, rarity and treatment.
Common treated blue topaz and fine natural pink or imperial-type topaz therefore occupy very different parts of the market.
The finished price also depends on diamonds or other supporting stones, precious metal and manufacturing complexity.
Providing a realistic target budget lets us balance the gemstone and setting from the beginning.
Why CAD Matters in Custom Topaz Jewelry
Topaz can be cut in large, deep and unusual proportions, so a setting should be developed around the actual dimensions of the stone.
CAD allows the proportions, dimensions, gemstone placement and construction to be reviewed before production begins.
For rings this can include setting height and edge protection. For pendants and earrings it allows articulation, balance and total length to be refined before manufacture.
The detailed 3D CAD carries a $25 non-refundable design fee. If the commission proceeds, the $25 is deducted from the final bill.
Are there any upfront costs?
There is no charge for the initial concept stage. We work with you to develop the idea and create visual mock-ups until we arrive at a design you are happy with.
Once the concept is agreed, we provide a quote to make the piece. If you would like to proceed, we request a $25 non-refundable CAD design fee. This covers the time required for our jewelry CAD designer to create the detailed 3D model and is deducted from your final balance if the piece goes ahead.
Am I obligated to go ahead once I submit the enquiry form?
No. Submitting the enquiry form does not commit you to purchasing anything. You are free to stop at any point during the initial concept and quotation stages.
Once the CAD fee has been paid, that fee is non-refundable because the CAD work is created specifically for you. Once the 40% production deposit has been paid and manufacturing has begun, that deposit is also non-refundable if you decide not to continue with the order.
How long does the whole process take?
The initial concept and quotation stage can take anything from the same day to several days, depending on how much refining is needed to get the design exactly right.
Once the concept is approved, the 3D CAD model usually takes around 2–4 days. After the CAD is approved and the 40% deposit is paid, production normally takes around 7–21 days, although most pieces are completed within approximately two weeks.
As soon as the piece is finished, we send you photographs and/or video for approval. The remaining balance is then due before dispatch.
International delivery from Thailand using DHL or FedEx is typically around 3–7 working days, depending on the destination and customs clearance.
Can you source almost any gemstone?
In most cases, yes. Thailand is one of the world's major gemstone and jewelry centers, giving us direct access to an exceptionally wide selection of colored stones.
We source gemstones in person through trusted long-standing contacts and established traders, including within Bangkok's jewelry district and Jewellery Trade Center.
We personally inspect and select the stones used in our custom pieces rather than simply ordering unseen stock, allowing us to choose for color, cut, clarity and overall appearance.
Do you offer gemstone certification?
Yes. If certification is required, the gemstone should normally be submitted to the laboratory before the jewelry enters production, while the stone is still loose.
We can arrange reports through reputable local gem laboratories in Bangkok and, where appropriate, through internationally recognized laboratories such as GIA.
Standard local laboratory certification can often be included without additional charge. GIA certification is usually most worthwhile for higher-value, important or exceptional stones and any GIA fees would be added to the quotation.
Laboratory turnaround can add anywhere from a few days to around two weeks depending on the laboratory and service used.
Where is my custom jewelry made?
Our custom jewelry is produced in Thailand. We source the gemstones here and work with our specialist Bangkok jewelry workshop to manufacture each piece.
Thailand has a long-established reputation for gemstone cutting and fine jewelry production, allowing us to combine skilled craftsmanship with direct access to gemstones and precious-metal manufacturing.

Potentially, yes. Availability depends on the color, size, quality and budget required, and important stones may benefit from suitable laboratory documentation.
Is blue topaz usually treated?
Much of the blue topaz in the jewelry market has been irradiated and heat treated to produce its blue color. Treatment should be represented accurately where known.
Is topaz suitable for a ring?
Yes, but the design should take its perfect cleavage into account. Topaz has good scratch resistance, yet a hard impact in an unfavorable direction can still chip or split the stone.
Can I use a topaz I already own?
Potentially, yes. Its exact dimensions and condition should be assessed before a new setting is developed around it.
