What Does “Madeira Citrine” Mean?
“Madeira” is a trade term used for richly colored citrine, generally in deeper orange to reddish-orange or brownish-orange shades.
It refers to the appearance of the gemstone rather than proving a particular geographic origin.
As with other trade descriptions, the actual color, transparency, cut and overall beauty of the stone are more useful than the name alone when choosing citrine for a custom piece.
Natural Citrine and Heat-Treated Material
Citrine is the yellow to orange variety of quartz. Naturally occurring citrine exists, but much of the citrine in the jewelry market is produced by heating suitable amethyst or other quartz material.
Heat treatment is well established within the gemstone trade, but treatment should be represented accurately where known.
Color alone is not always enough to determine the exact treatment history of an individual stone, particularly from photographs.
Citrine Cuts and Shapes
Citrine is available in an exceptionally broad range of shapes and can often be cut into large, dramatic gemstones.
Cushions and ovals suit antique-inspired rings and pendants, while rectangular and emerald cuts create cleaner geometric lines. Pear and marquise stones can be particularly attractive in drop earrings and articulated pendants.

Is Citrine Suitable for Regular Wear?
Citrine belongs to the quartz family and has a Mohs hardness of around 7, giving it reasonable resistance to everyday scratching.
Hardness does not make a gemstone immune to chips or impact, so exposed corners and high settings should still be considered carefully in rings intended for frequent wear.
Earrings and pendants receive less impact and allow more freedom with large or unusually shaped citrine.
Using Your Own Citrine or Heirloom Stones
A citrine you already own can potentially become the starting point for a completely new piece of custom jewelry.
An older ring stone might become a pendant, or existing diamonds could be reused around the citrine in a new trilogy, cluster or period-inspired setting.
Exact dimensions and condition should be considered before resetting, especially where an older stone shows abrasion or small chips along facet edges.
How Much Does Custom Citrine Jewelry Cost?
Cost depends on the citrine's size, color, transparency and cut, together with any diamonds or other gemstones included in the design.
Precious metal and manufacturing complexity also affect the final price. A large but simple citrine pendant can therefore have very different requirements from a diamond-intensive cocktail ring or articulated pair of earrings.
Giving us a realistic target budget allows the gemstone and setting to be developed together from the beginning.
Why CAD Matters in Custom Citrine Jewelry
Citrine can be found in large and sometimes unusually deep proportions, making exact dimensions important.
CAD allows the proportions, dimensions, gemstone placement and construction to be reviewed before production begins.
For rings this can include setting height and shank width. For earrings and pendants it allows balance, spacing and articulation to be refined before manufacture.
The detailed 3D CAD carries a $25 non-refundable design fee. If the commission proceeds, the $25 is deducted from the final bill.
Are there any upfront costs?
There is no charge for the initial concept stage. We work with you to develop the idea and create visual mock-ups until we arrive at a design you are happy with.
Once the concept is agreed, we provide a quote to make the piece. If you would like to proceed, we request a $25 non-refundable CAD design fee. This covers the time required for our jewelry CAD designer to create the detailed 3D model and is deducted from your final balance if the piece goes ahead.
Am I obligated to go ahead once I submit the enquiry form?
No. Submitting the enquiry form does not commit you to purchasing anything. You are free to stop at any point during the initial concept and quotation stages.
Once the CAD fee has been paid, that fee is non-refundable because the CAD work is created specifically for you. Once the 40% production deposit has been paid and manufacturing has begun, that deposit is also non-refundable if you decide not to continue with the order.
How long does the whole process take?
The initial concept and quotation stage can take anything from the same day to several days, depending on how much refining is needed to get the design exactly right.
Once the concept is approved, the 3D CAD model usually takes around 2–4 days. After the CAD is approved and the 40% deposit is paid, production normally takes around 7–21 days, although most pieces are completed within approximately two weeks.
As soon as the piece is finished, we send you photographs and/or video for approval. The remaining balance is then due before dispatch.
International delivery from Thailand using DHL or FedEx is typically around 3–7 working days, depending on the destination and customs clearance.
Can you source almost any gemstone?
In most cases, yes. Thailand is one of the world's major gemstone and jewelry centers, giving us direct access to an exceptionally wide selection of colored stones.
We source gemstones in person through trusted long-standing contacts and established traders, including within Bangkok's jewelry district and Jewellery Trade Center.
We personally inspect and select the stones used in our custom pieces rather than simply ordering unseen stock, allowing us to choose for color, cut, clarity and overall appearance.
Do you offer gemstone certification?
Yes. If certification is required, the gemstone should normally be submitted to the laboratory before the jewelry enters production, while the stone is still loose.
We can arrange reports through reputable local gem laboratories in Bangkok and, where appropriate, through internationally recognized laboratories such as GIA.
Standard local laboratory certification can often be included without additional charge. GIA certification is usually most worthwhile for higher-value, important or exceptional stones and any GIA fees would be added to the quotation.
Laboratory turnaround can add anywhere from a few days to around two weeks depending on the laboratory and service used.
Where is my custom jewelry made?
Our custom jewelry is produced in Thailand. We source the gemstones here and work with our specialist Bangkok jewelry workshop to manufacture each piece.
Thailand has a long-established reputation for gemstone cutting and fine jewelry production, allowing us to combine skilled craftsmanship with direct access to gemstones and precious-metal manufacturing.
